THREE KNOSSOS LIVESTOCK RECORDS (C(4) 911, C(4) 912 AND C(4) 917)

JOHN T. KILLEN

The paper discusses the three Knossos tablets classified as C(4) in CoMIK and KT 5, 912, 913 and 917. C(4) 917 is a totalling record, apparently for the other two tablets, which form a diptych, but its relationship to C(4) 911, C(4) 912 is not straightforward and requires elucidation. Towards the end of the paper attention focuses on the individual flock totals on C(4) 911, C(4) 912, which the author argues provide confirmation of his earlier contention (Killen 1964) that the sheep on the D tablets at Knossos are real flocks, not animals supplied to the palace as tribute.

John T. Killen is Emeritus Professor of Mycenaean Greek, Cambridge University.
